Here's a reverse-chronological log of some of the hikes, climbs,
and trips I've been on.
Many are simply listed, some have a brief description on this
page. If the date and location are a link, it leads to a report,
which may be just brief text, or may be pages in length with multiple
pictures and QuickTime panoramas. If there are links in the text
about the trip on this page, the link either goes to another site
or to a single picture or panorama.
To see the QuickTime VR Panoramas, you'll need QuickTime software.
QuickTime 3.0 should work, but you can get QuickTime 4.1 free
from Apple - and you are likely already to have it, it comes
with a lot of games and some software.
2000, theme to be determined
-
- 19-20 Feb '00 Staircase Car
Camp and Stroll
- Managed to get out at the tail end of some lovely weather.
Char meat by the river, take a little stroll to where the remaining
pieces of the Staircase rapids bridge are. Shot a couple panoramas
by the river for the heck of it.
- 20 Jan '00 East Tiger Eclipse Hike
- Tiger summit to East Tiger on the road, in the dark. Had
two other folks show up for Washington Trails Ass'n 'Trail Talk'
social and hike. Many expressed interest, but drizzly night dampened
turnout. People of perseverance got great views of eclipse through
two wonderful and well timed rents in the clouds. Nice road walk
evening hike, I may go back if I have to have a hike at night
again. South end city light views, etc.
- 19 Jan '00 West Tiger III
- Icy at the top, found cave just off power line road above
railroad grade. We were bushwhacking to avoid the otter-slide
ice chute trail. Nice sunny day views from the top.
- 9 Jan '00 Mt. Pete (Enumclaw)
- Trail in dandy shape, had to carry the gravel to the top
to find a muddy spot to dump it. Felt best yet on the hike. (See
previous years for details).
1999, a peek at serious:
- Log is incomplete
-
- 16-18 Oct '99 Chatter Creek
- Lovely fall weather, gorgeous colors, and flu-induced low
mileage.
- 25-28 Sep '99 Enchantments
- Generously invited along to fill out a permit. Meets the
reputation, I'll go back.
- 18 Sep '99 Sahale Mtn. Climb
- Boealps climb mostly populated with Green Teamers from this
year. Al arranged great weather!
- Here's a first pass at a giant 640x480 QTVR
from the summit... 1.8 meg large, and you'll need some RAM
allocated to QT movie player to play it back, too.
- 16 Sep '99 Snow Lake
- Didn't see the lake. Nice little hike, looks like a good
'visitor hike.'
- 11-12 Sep '99 Mt. Adams
South Climb
- Green team classmate Prash and I had a nice 'stroll up the
hill.'
- 7 Sep '99 McClellan Butte
- Nice I-90 hike, little scramble at the summit
- 13-25 Aug '99 Glacier National
Park Hiking
- What a stupendous place! We took two different hikes... extended
vacation report here (first hike report done, 3.5 panoramas posted)
- 27 June '99 Unicorn Peak in the
Tatoosh
- First post-class climb-climb. wonderful break in the clouds
redeemed the day.
- May Hiking and Touring Hawaii
- A visit to my little sister, to see the flowing lava, to
hike along the coast. Made my first high point, too, to the top
of Mauna Kea - by tour van. There's a hike report, we did a great
hike to Waimanu Valley, and a couple pans, one of Waimanu and
another of sunset from the summit of Mauna Kea.
- April Rogue River Trail, SW Oregon
- A forty mile hike I've wanted to do since I was a kid. Nice
early season hike.
- March - June Boealps Basic Course
- should put together comments and a full report. who knows
if I'll get to it. Check the Boealps
website, and know that their courses are open to the public,
with priority to Boeing employees. I thought the course was great.
- 30 Jan '99 PCT at High Bridge
- Well, seriously, we did do a couple hundred feet of it..
up from Stehekin Lodge
on snowshoes.. nice outing!
- 24 Jan '99 Nisqually Wildlife Preserve
- An aborted exploration, to be taken up later. Neat place,
flat trails, birds, sea lions...
- 16 Jan '99 Kendall Lakes Trail (Snoqualmie Pass)
- Made it a couple miles up the trail, a nice snowshoe outing,
the snow really coming down.
- 10 Jan '99 Mt. Pete (Enumclaw)
- A nice short steep trail, to moderate views (if applicable).
About a mile and 1000'? Pictures.
1998, year of the Corps:
- 12 Sept Goat Flats (Three Fingers)
- Great huckleberry picking, view of North Sound, almost made
it to South Finger, a 'hike' on the verge of scrambly alpine
adventure, very rough lower trail.
- 5 Sept Buck Creek Pass
- Great camp on top of Liberty Cap, stupendous views 360 around.
- 2 Sept West Tiger III
- Last of the 'Stress Hikes' for '98
- 15-21 Aug Tuquala Meadows to Snoqualmie Pass, PCT

- 9 Aug Norse Peak

- 18 July Frog Mountain
- Short hike, nice flowers.
- 11 July STP
- The First Lady pedals.
- 4 Jul Miller Peak (Teanaway)

lowered our spirits and and desire, but a lovely walk was had
in any case, and we returned to town in time for fireworks. More
pictures to come.
